These properties are scattered rather than stacked. There is no building tying them together, no front desk, and nobody stationed at the property. The monitoring setup can be different at every address. Between bookings and between tenants, nobody walks past.
Whatever monitoring is already at a property, Envoy connects to what it can reach and confirms it is still reporting. Where coverage stops partway, Envoy fills in. Where there is none, Envoy supplies it.
Envoy is not a life-safety system. Smoke and carbon monoxide detection needs its own certified equipment that alarms locally at the property. What Envoy adds is knowing those units are still reporting, so a detector that went offline shows up as something to fix rather than sitting there looking fine. Where they are connected, Envoy can also record that an alarm fired and alert the contact you assign.
The Problem
Why this is harder than it used to be.
Where sensors, smart locks, thermostat automation, and leak detection are installed, they run without anyone thinking about them. The harder part is knowing when one of them has stopped reporting, because a dashboard showing yesterday’s reading looks the same as one showing today’s.
Scale compounds it. Every address is its own setup with its own credentials, and there is no single place to see which ones are reporting right now.
Documentation is the other half. Insurers ask operators to document their monitoring and maintenance, and rental platforms set standards for property condition and host performance. Envoy does not guarantee that an insurer will accept a record or that a platform will keep a listing in good standing. What it does is produce a continuous record of the conditions it observed, the alerts it sent, and the response that followed.

Each property’s setup spells out exactly what Envoy monitors there. Where a condition is not already covered, Envoy can supply monitoring for water leaks, temperature, including inside freezers and refrigerators, humidity, mold condition detection, power, internet connectivity, occupancy and motion, and geolocating and geofencing for movable assets kept at the property, like a golf cart, a generator, a grill, or a kayak. Where compatible monitoring is already in place and Envoy can connect to it, it stays, and Envoy checks that it is still working. When a device stops reporting, Envoy flags it.
Envoy routes each alert to the contact you assign for that property. Who that is can depend on the property, the type of problem, and the time of day, which matters when the person managing the portfolio is in one city and the maintenance contact is near the house. Envoy tracks each alert from the moment it fires until it is resolved, and if nobody responds inside the agreed window, it escalates to the next contact.
